Optimum web page length

Websites are designed so people have easy and fast access to information. Hence the usability of the website should be the prime concern of any website owner .How easy is for a user to navigate the website and access the information provided without getting stuck somewhere ?This should be the question all website designers should ask themselves when creating a website.

The various features of website design used in creating a website should enable a comfortable browsing experience to all the visitors. These days emphasis is also being laid on the fact that most website designers do not create web designs suitable for persons with disabilities. If this is the case then website owners may be losing out on a large chunk of audience who for some flaw or absence of a design element are unable to view their websites. If you need to have an edge over competition, then a lot of I depends on how well your website is designed and how easy it is to use. Two basic things people look for in a website are good quality content and ease of navigation.

There has to be balance between various features of web design to create a good website which is easily accessible by all. When it comes to content, other than the quality of the content, other factors to be considered are the layout, the color and the font type and size. The length of the page is also important. Information should be displayed in a comprehensive manner which is easy on the eyes. The length of the page need not be constant across all the pages. A general standard mostly used for page length as recommended by web designers is 700-1500 word pages. Search engines usually do not pick up websites which have less than 700 words and more than 1500. A 700 word page is believed to be both user and search engine friendly. Content should be displayed in such a manner that it attracts the user’s attention and makes reading easier .Complicated, flowery language is not recommended.

Language should be simple and easy flowing so the user can gather information fast without too much of an effort.700 words is adequate amount of words to attract search engine spiders as well as they need sufficient content to pick up on a particular website. At the same time a page with 1500 words or more is definitely not going to appeal either to a human visitor or a search engine spider. So the information you need to convey to your consumer has to be compact and comprehensive and yet fit into the 700-1500 word range.

Web users judge your business by the way information is conveyed to them .Hence establishing credibility through the way you present your content to the user is all important. It is recommended that you assign a proper length to each page with a well defined structure. Content if not structured can get quite complicated and messy and reduce the readability of your web page. Length of lines in each paragraph and length of paragraphs themselves in each page should also be kept short enough but with sufficient information to attract a web user’s attention and hold it.
